The National Taxi Drivers Union
Brief History
The Union is now entering its 11th year in business. Formed on 22nd September 1995 as an amalgamation of the then Taxi Branch in SIPTU headed by Vinny Kearns and Taxi Drivers Services leader Tommy Gorman.
With the support of their members the Union has grown from strength to strength now the largest representative group solely representing taxi drivers.
Having moved office three times the Union now boasts of a fully equipped office capable of meeting the day to day needs of taxi drivers nationwide. There are ten fulltime staff with the skills required to service members requirements in Taxi Insurance, Pensions and Critical Illness Schemes, Life Cover, general insurance and Taxation needs.
The Union directive is taken from its six National Executive members.

As more and more decisions are being made in Europe the NTDU have become members of the International Road Transport Union (IRU). Through this association we are able to voice our views on the many changes which are being reviewed and prepared for implementation. 2004 saw the granting of a negotiating licence to the Union.
We have grown and will endeavour to fight for a quality safe and reliable taxi service that rewards the service provider and encourages professionalism.

The NTDU aims to improve working conditions for members and set standards so that not only is the taxi operator proud of the service he provides to the public, but that they can also be an ambassador for their city and country.
